5 Surprising Facts About Coffee Leaf Tea
You heard it here first: our Hawaiian Ola Kona coffee leaf teas are pretty amazing, and not just because they taste incredible. The coffee Hawaii is best known for is Kona coffee arabica, which is harvested, roasted and brewed like coffees all over the world. Our Kona tea is different! Read on for a few reasons why coffee leaf tea - a Hawaiian tea of our own creation - is a superfood in more ways than one:
Comes from coffee, tastes like tea! Our Hawaiian Ola tea is the first ready-to drink beverage made from the leaves of the coffee plant, rather than the fruit. We steep organic Kona coffee leaves to create an infusion that is lightly caffeinated and tastes a bit like traditional iced tea (but better). Even if you don’t like brewed coffee, you are sure to enjoy our refreshing coffee leaf teas.
A little caffeine, or a bit more - it’s up to you. We currently offer two flavors of our coffee leaf teas, each with a different amount of naturally occurring caffeine. One 11.5 ounce can of our Lemongrass Mint coffee leaf tea has 60 mg of caffeine - that’s less than half of what you’d get in the same amount of brewed coffee. And our Tulsi Berry coffee leaf tea contains 120 mg of caffeine per can - just a little less than the same amount of brewed coffee. Whether you want a little pick me up, or a bit more, it’s up to you!
Extra antioxidants! Coffee leaf tea is a more potent source of antioxidants than green tea or traditionally brewed coffee. Coffee leaf is also rich in mangiferin, which is being studied for its many potential health benefits. When you drink our coffee leaf tea, it’s like giving your body a big hug from the inside.
Helps coffee farmers and promotes sustainable farming. We’re on a mission to support Hawaii's environment & economy, and the most important way we do that is by creating demand for organic, responsibly grown crops through the ingredients we use. For our coffee leaf teas, we pay local organic coffee farmers for leaves that they trim as part of their normal growing process. So the leaves act as an additional revenue stream for farmers on top of the coffee cherry (beans) themselves. It’s a win-win!
Vegan, gluten-free, and non-GMO verified! Our coffee leaf teas are lightly sweetened with organic cane sugar and contain no animal-derived sweeteners. They’re 100% vegan and gluten-free! They’re organic and even verified by the Non-GMO Project, an independent certifier that is leading the charge for GMO transparency in packaged food and drink.
